Charlie Mounts is a Master’s candidate in International Relations at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), specializing in timely analysis to help businesses and policymakers navigate risks and opportunities in a rapidly changing world. With a focus on the United States, Charlie is passionate about connecting the dots between history, politics, culture, economics, security, and technology to deliver insights on complex global challenges.

Before graduate school, Charlie spent four years as a consultant at Tripepi Smith & Associates, advising public, private, and non-profit clients, including elected officials, law partners, and CEOs. He delivered sharp policy analysis, strategic communications, and tech-driven solutions, earning a promotion in his first year to account lead and project manager. Overseeing a portfolio of eight clients generating over $1.6M in annual revenue, he built strong client relationships, delivered error-free, on-budget work, and secured new engagements on the conference circuit. Internally, Charlie led diverse teams, mentoring over 20 colleagues, and, as head of recruitment, helped grow the firm from 20 to over 70 employees. He also led the company’s AI task force, driving research projects and software implementation.

At the American Enterprise Institute, Charlie synthesized complex research on international economics, foreign and defense policy, healthcare, education, and technology into actionable insights. At Algomi (acquired by BGC Partners in 2020) in New York City, he collaborated with engineers and institutional investors to enhance bond market liquidity through innovative data aggregation tools, contributing to ALFA, a fixed-income market surveillance platform with trading capabilities. At Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business summer program, he studied corporate finance, accounting, managerial economics, spreadsheet modeling, and marketing under MBA faculty, building DCF valuation models, presenting to business executives, and winning the Markstrat marketing strategy simulation.

Charlie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government (Cum Laude) from Claremont McKenna College, with departmental honors and a leadership sequence. His senior thesis, a comparative analysis of U.S. and Canadian government responses to COVID-19, earned the 2021 Philip Roland Prize for Best Senior Thesis in Public Policy.

A dual U.S.-UK citizen, Charlie has lived in London, California, Connecticut, and now Washington, D.C. Having traveled to 38 countries and speaking intermediate Spanish, he brings a global perspective to his work. Outside of his professional pursuits, Charlie enjoys chess, surfing, soccer, and staying immersed in global affairs, continually analyzing the forces shaping our world and seeking solutions to its most pressing challenges.
